In 2018, TuneCore’s founder Jeff Price said “As the founder of TuneCore I hate to say it but DistroKid is the single best music distribution company in the world. Interestingly, some of DistroKid’s biggest fans are former founders of rival companies like TuneCore and CD Baby. But DistroKid’s main selling point is its ability to share an immeasurable amount of music quickly and more cheaply than its competition. Competitors such as CD Baby also offer physical distribution, and Tunecore offers social media promotional tools and other services. They quickly became one of music’s favourite distribution companies within a short period of time. For a new start up, they hit the ground running and they were able to compete right away with the champions of digital music distribution. Once released, listeners can find you and your music on these platforms.ĭistroKid was founded in 2013 by Philip Kaplan, and was launched almost a decade after established competitors like TuneCore and CD Baby. This means that the platform sends your music, cover art and data to streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok, Pandora, Amazon, YouTube, Tidal and more. Perhaps CD Baby has some value for you if you want physical distribution (CD's).DistroKid is a digital distributor. They either take a cut of your royalties or they don't offer a legacy option while charging way too much per year. Taking roaylties is the reason why Tunecore and CD baby are not on this list.

The point is to buy them all and to use the free ones too but to make sure you avoid any that take a cut of your royalties. Get Level premium especially if any of these distributors ban you like Amuse and Distrokid might do. Distrokid is only useful for one thing and that is to release an album with the legacy option so that you don't have to pay annually and it's just $50.ħ.
#LANDR VS DISTROKID LICENSE#
Use LANDR's 10 song/$10 per year deal ONLY if you have 10 songs with the copyright license ready to show them because they ask for it every time.

Ditto should be your first paid stop (or distrokid if you are a noob like I was)ĥ. Amuse sucks but why not get one free song done per month if you can.Ĥ.
#LANDR VS DISTROKID FOR FREE#
Level gives away two for free and the paid version is solid.ģ. If you only have 4 songs then using 4 distributors will be worth it in the long run even if you never make a 5th song! Safety in numbers is the only way to protect your music and your investment. All songs from other distributors are still safe so the more distributors you have the safer you are. you have two strikes but since they are on different distributors you won't get taken down and only the songs from those two distributors are in danger. Now imagine you get one song taken down on Distrokid and then another one taken down on Ditto. If you only use one distributor that will completely wipe you out. So having two songs removed means that all of the songs from that distributor are going to get removed. Most of these companies have a two strikes your out policy. ok, so why so many? Well because it spreads the risk in case of song removal. On day one you should sign up to Freshtunes, Level and Amuse for there free offerings, but then also sign up to LANDR, Ditto, and Distrokid too. What is the best music distributor to use in 2020 you ask? Well the answer is all of them.
